Ex-controle Afgooye terror attack: the aftermath

While all relevant actors are trying to convince donors and the Somali business community to focus on the victims of yesterday’s attack and to provide emergency assistance, more people are now openly criticising the government for failing to provide security. Among them, Thabit Abdi Mohamed who is the former Mayor of Mogadishu and former Governor of Benadir. In his interview with Dalsan TV, and after he conveyed his condolences, he was quoted saying: “the security strategy is not implemented properly” and that “government should revisit the security strategy” He also said that the government should take action and hold the responsible officials accountable.
The Forum for National Parties in its statement also criticised the government and advised the FGS to abandon its current and “failed” security strategy, that has caused thousands Somalis to lose their lives due to “preventable” attacks.

Somalis around the globe are also sharing their anger at the Members of Parliament who continued the voting on the heavily disputed National Electoral Law, as people were rushing to the scene to provide first aid assistance and transportation to the hospitals. Some interpret this, as a sign that the current administration has prioritized the voting and was not willing to risk a delay and shift in how MPs may vote.

Meanwhile, Benadir University is mourning the high number of students it lost yesterday as a bus transporting the students was near when the truck carrying the explosives detonated.
