Al-Shabaab mourns the death of one of its staunchest allies in Garasweyne.
The militant group lost Abdulahi Mohamed Yare, a traditional elder who is also popularly known as Malaaq Qori.
Yare was killed in an operation conducted by government forces on May 7.
Over the years, Qori has supported Al-Shabaab through recruitment, opening of madras classes, and collection of zakat.
State media confirmed Qori’s killing.
Several top Al-Shabaab leaders mourned the elder’s killing. These included Sheikh Osman Abu Abdirahman and Abdullahi Abu Khalid.
Abdirahman and Khalid are the shadow governors for Bakool and Galgadud respectively.
