Independent Committee Established to Review and Implement Somali Constitution

An independent committee is now in place to review and implement the Somalia constitution.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud approved the proposal put forward by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.

The Prime Minister had appealed for the formation of the Independent Committee for the Review and Implementation of the Constitution (ICRIC).

President Mohamud has granted that request.

The committee starts its work immediately.

Burhan Adan Omar has been announced as the Chairman of the ICRIC.

Other members of the committee include Ahmed Mohamed Jama, Mohamed Abdullah Saleh, Mohamed Hassan Idris, and Farhiyo Mumin Ali.

Both houses of parliament have already approved the committee.

Somalia has never completed the constitution review and implementation process, which kicked off in 2017.
