Puntland Authorities Evacuate IDPs over Cyclone Gati Fears

Puntland authorities have evacuated hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from their camps over Cyclone Gati fears.

The Puntland Marine Police Force carried out the evacuation exercise on November 23.

Authorities took the IDPs to temporary shelters that they prepared beforehand where they would not be exposed to heavy rains that have hit the region over the last few days.

Cyclone Gati made a landfall in the region. Authorities expect it to create harsh conditions that include heavy rains and strong winds.

IDP camps are susceptible to the harsh realities of the cyclone.

Authorities confirmed that they expect rains that would ordinarily fall over a two-year period to hit Puntland and the nearby coastal areas over the next few days.
