Roble Grateful to ATMIS for Protecting Somalia During the Recent Elections

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has expressed gratitude to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) for securing the country during the recent elections.

Roble spoke when he held a meeting with senior ATMIS officers in his Mogadishu office on Wednesday, May 18.

Fiona Lortan, ATMIS’ Deputy Force Commander, led the team in the meeting with the outgoing Prime Minister of Somali.

Specifically, Prime Minister Roble extended his gratitude to the senior ATMIS officers for leading their troops in keeping Somalia secure during the just-concluded elections.

ATMIS declared a total lockdown of Afisyoni where the presidential elections took place on Sunday, May 15.

This followed an earlier move by the ATMIS troops to put the same venue on lockdown during the recent elections for the leadership of both chambers of the federal parliament.

ATMIS troops were also in charge of security at the venue during last month’s swearing-in ceremony for newly-elected legislators.
