A security operation in the Mudug region has left 47 Al-Shabaab terrorists dead.
Security agencies in the region conducted the operation jointly with members of the local community over the past few days.
General Mohamed Tahlil Bihi confirmed the deaths when speaking to the media on Tuesday.
Gen. Bihi is the commander of the infantry unit of the Somali National Army (SNA).
He added that the counterterrorism operation, which security agencies undertook on Monday, was quite successful.
International partners offered military air support during Monday’s operation.
“Residents of Harardhere and the surrounding areas where we carried the operation provided us with constant updates on the whereabouts of the terrorists,” Gen. Bihi added.
Five villages in the region are now free of terrorists courtesy of the two-day operation.
