Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers killed 18 Al-Shabaab militants in southern Somalia on Tuesday, October 20.
A military spokesperson told the media that the militants were killed in a military operation carried outside Barire town, in Lower Shabelle.
Ahmed Hassan Ziyad, the military spokesperson, said that SNA soldiers were sent to the area after intelligence reports showed the presence of Al-Shabaab extremists in Nun Garay village.
According to Ziyad, a confrontation ensued between the militants and SNA soldiers.
At the end, at least 18 extremists were killed by the government troops.
Ziyad confirmed that Sidow Nurre Abu Musin, Al-Shabaab’s Operational Commander in Lower Shabelle, was among those killed in the operation.
