The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has announced its intention to prioritize the eradication of poliovirus in the country.
Dr. Ali Hajiadam Abubakar, the Minister of Health, stated that the government is ready to put more resources in ensuring that polio is no longer a problem in Somalia.
He stated that the government, through the health ministry, is working closely with other partners to end the 7-year variant poliovirus.
Dr. Hajiadam said this during his meeting with Dr. Hamid Jafari in Mogadishu on Sunday.
Dr. Jafari is the Director of Polio Eradication for the World Health Organization (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Region.
He commended the dedication displayed by the leaders of Somalia in preventing any further spread and transmission of polio in the country.
