Somalia-Kenya Border to be Reopened at Mandera after 10-Year Closure

The Somalia-Kenya border at Mandera is to be reopened after a 10-year closure.

Plans to reopen the order are at an advanced stage, especially now that the Customs Border Control Point is set for rehabilitation and reopening.

Kithure Kindiki, Kenya’s Minister of Interior Security, announced plans to reopen the border.

Kindiki added that the reopening of the border is part of the plans by the government to curb illicit trade at the border.

“The smuggling of goods, drugs, counterfeit products, and illegal weapons would stop once the order is up and running,” Kindiki stated.
