MOGADISHU – The Federal Government of Somalia has welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the agreement as a positive step toward reducing tensions, strengthening dialogue, and enhancing stability in the region.
In an official statement, Somalia commended both parties for choosing diplomacy and negotiation to de-escalate tensions and promote peace. The government expressed hope that the understanding would be implemented in good faith, contribute to the protection of civilian lives, safeguard freedom of navigation and maritime security, and prevent further escalation of hostilities.
The Federal Government of Somalia also praised the effective efforts of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Republic of Türkiye in supporting this diplomatic advancement. Somalia further acknowledged the significant role and efforts of President Donald J. Trump in advancing peace.

The agreement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and the Red Sea region, where attacks on commercial shipping have disrupted vital maritime routes. The Federal Government has consistently called for de-escalation and dialogue to resolve regional conflicts.
