Somalia Condemns Attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain

MOGADISHU – The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a statement condemning attacks against Kuwait and Bahrain, expressing concern over what it described as a dangerous escalation threatening regional peace and stability.

In an official communique, the government reaffirmed its solidarity with both Gulf states and voiced support for their security and territorial integrity. The statement also backed efforts to protect civilians and critical infrastructure while rejecting actions that compromise the security and stability of states.

The government urged restraint, dialogue, and adherence to international law to prevent further escalation in the Gulf region.

FTLSomalia previously reported that Somalia’s federal government notably excluded the United Arab Emirates from its initial diplomatic statement condemning Iran’s retaliatory attacks on Gulf nations. In an earlier communique released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mogadishu explicitly referenced and offered solidarity to Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait. However, the initial statement omitted the UAE without providing formal justification.

The omission drew international attention, given that Somalia terminated bilateral agreements and severed diplomatic relations with Abu Dhabi in January. That diplomatic break followed Mogadishu’s accusations that the UAE had violated Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial unity through separate dealings with regional member states. Hours after the initial release, the Somali government issued a separate statement addressing Iran’s military attacks on the UAE, explicitly condemning the assaults.

Regional Context

Somalia maintains diplomatic and economic ties with several Gulf states. The government’s latest statement follows an escalation in the Middle East after U.S. and Israeli strikes killed senior Iranian leadership, prompting Iran to launch retaliatory attacks that hit military facilities in several countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on all parties to exercise restraint and return to dialogue. “The Federal Government of Somalia supports all peaceful efforts to resolve regional conflicts and calls on the concerned parties to prioritize diplomacy and peaceful solutions to achieve lasting peace, stability and coexistence,” the statement read.
