Somalis Urged to Protect Their Forests

Somalis have to protect their forests.

Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzumi, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, called on Somalis to protect their forests on Tuesday.

She spoke during an event held to mark the International Day of Forests on March 21.

Somalia has suffered consecutive failed rains, droughts, famines, and humanitarian crises in the last 3-5 years.

Al-Makhzumi reminded Somalis of the health benefits of forests.

“Forests enable us to receive clean water and air,” the minister added.

Other benefits that she highlighted include the reduction of the effects of climate change, the provision of adequate food for all, and an enhanced sense of well-being.
