Suldaan Said Ahmed has been appointed Finland’s new envoy for peace for the Horn of Africa region.
The Finnish government announced Suldaan’s appointment on Wednesday, January 24.
In his new position, the former Helsinki city councilor is now expected to lead Finland’s peace mediation efforts in the region.
While making the announcement, Elina Valtonen, the Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Suldaan would lead peace mediation efforts in countries such as Somalia, Eritrea, and Ethiopia.
Suldaan’s appointment is timely considering the growing diplomatic row between Somalia and Ethiopia.
He’s not new to the role having served in it between 2022 and 2023.
Back then, he served under Pekka Haavisto, the immediate former Finland Minister of Foreign Affairs.
