Thousands Displaced as River Shabelle Floods Beledweyne City

There are fears that thousands of Beledweyne residents have been forced out of their homes after River Shabelle’s banks burst due to the ongoing heavy rains in the region.

Water from the burst River Shabelle found its way to the city overnight and in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

This forced thousands to flee their homes in search of safe spaces elsewhere.

Local authorities quickly swung into action and started to evacuate residents from the affected parts of Beledweyne, which is the provincial capital of Hiiraan.
