Fourteen Al-Shabaab fighters were killed as they engaged Somali National Army (SNA) forces in intense gunfight on Saturday in Galgadud region.
Chief Commander of the SNA, Gen. Odawa Yusuf Rage, confirmed the incident to the media.
During his media interview, Gen. Rage confirmed that SNA soldiers carried out a military operation in the area against suspected Al-Shabaab militia.
He stated that the soldiers carried out the operation from Friday November 6 based on the latest intelligence reports.
Furthermore, the SNA Chief Commander mentioned that 15 other militants were injured.
The SNA soldiers seized several weapons and ammunition from the extremists.
The central and southern parts of the country have been caught up in intense fights between government forces and extremists.
