AMISOM rewarded 160 Nigerian soldiers for completing their one-year tour of duty in the Horn of Africa nation.
The officers will be leaving and returning home. While serving, their roles included provision of protection and escort services in the war-torn nation.
AMISOM’s soldiers assist Somali Police Force to manage public order. They also train police on public order management while securing high-level events and key government installations.
Simon Mulongo, the Deputy Special Representative of African Union Commission’s Chairperson, said, “The team from Nigeria will go down in the annals of history for exemplary work.”
He explained further that the team has represented both the African Union and Nigerian Police Force admirably in the last one year of service.
The 160 officers were part of the 8th Contingent from Nigeria to join AMISOM mission in Somalia. Mulongo said their selfless sacrifice would not go unnoticed.
