Mogadishu, Somalia – Authorities in the Somali capital have arrested 17 individuals, including members of the security forces, for alleged breaches of security protocols, according to a statement released by the Mogadishu Police Command.
The arrests were made as part of an ongoing security operation aimed at curbing misconduct and enforcing discipline within the capital, which has faced persistent security challenges from both criminal networks and extremist groups like Al-Shabaab.
The individuals in custody reportedly include both civilians and security personnel accused of violating standing orders and engaging in unauthorized activities. While the police did not disclose the specific charges or identities of those detained, they confirmed that formal investigations are underway.
“Our security operations are ongoing, and anyone found violating regulations—regardless of their rank or role—will be held accountable,” a senior police official stated. “We are committed to maintaining the rule of law and public trust in the security sector.”
The arrests come amid heightened concerns about internal accountability within Somali security agencies, especially following recent high-profile attacks in Mogadishu and other regions. Government officials have pledged to root out corruption, collusion, and negligence in the forces tasked with protecting the public.
The Somali Police Force emphasized that further updates will be shared once the investigation concludes and legal proceedings begin.
This development reflects growing efforts by Somali authorities to reform and professionalize the country’s security institutions as part of broader stabilization and governance reforms.
