Somalia plans to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in 200 schools across the Banadir region to provide clean energy.
This initiative aims to enhance the educational environment by ensuring reliable electricity, which is essential for lighting, educational technology, and other school activities.
The use of solar energy will also promote sustainability and reduce the reliance on non-renewable energy sources, contributing to the country’s efforts to embrace green energy solutions.
Primary and secondary schools in the region will benefit from this project.
The government announced that it would avail PV systems in tertiary institutions as well as Ministry of Education offices in the region.
Somalia Electricity Sector Recovery Project (SESRP) is responsible for the initiative while the International Development Association (IDA) is in charge of the funding.
