Around 2,000 Africa Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) soldiers will leave the country in the next two months.
The plan is to withdraw the ATMIS soldiers from Somalia by June 30, 2023.
Preparations to withdraw them are now officially underway.
ATMIS intends to pull its forces completely out of the East African nation by end of this year.
As it starts reducing its numbers, Somali National Army (SNA) will increase its numbers.
SNA forces will start taking over the areas handed to them by ATMIS as from next month.
