US Recommits to Providing Life-Saving Assistance to Vulnerable Somalis

The United States has recommitted itself to the provision of life-saving assistance to vulnerable Somalis.

The US Embassy in Somalia made this assurance on April 7 during celebrations to mark World Health Day.

The Embassy, which is in Mogadishu, initially made this pledge in the face of the worsening situation caused by the ongoing drought.

Somalia is currently experiencing one of its worst droughts in the last 40 years.

Close to 4.5 million people in the East African nation are at risk of starvation and disease.

Hundreds of thousands of people in the country have been displaced from their homes with many of them living in camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
