221 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Somalia

Somalia has recorded 221 new cases of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic that is now in its third wave in the country.

On September 20, the Ministry of Health announced this in its daily updates on the disease.

In the Monday update, the health ministry confirmed that 174 of the cases were reported in Somaliland. Banadir had 23 cases followed by Puntland with 21.

Moreover, the ministry also announced 16 new deaths, a number that pushes the tally of fatalities to 1,079.

With 59 people recovering from the disease, Somalia’s recoveries have now hit 9,250.

The East African nation has experienced a surge in the COVID-19 numbers, a situation that has taken its cases to 19,234.

According to the health ministry, the new cases were from 2,066 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
