Somaliland Issues Fresh Conditions for Resumption of Talks with Somalia

Somaliland has issued a fresh set of conditions to be met before it agrees to resume talks with Somalia.

Through the Office of the President, Somaliland said that it would not be against a resumption of the talks once the seven conditions are met.

In a statement dated December 6, Somaliland said that it supports a two-state process and two-state solution.

Secondly, it also called for the immediate implementation of all previous agreements.

Furthermore, Somaliland said that it would not budge until an impartial and neutral international mediation mechanism is in place.

Fourth, Somaliland expects a secretariat to be appointed to manage and keep accurate records.

Somaliland’s fifth condition is for all future dialogues to be based upon key principles and a code of conduct.

A substantive agenda that addresses the core issues of the dispute is yet another requirement.

Finally, Somaliland called for a dialogue that has a finite timeframe.
