African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has announced that 37 of its troops based in Somalia have tested positive to COVID-19.
Consequently, they have all been put on isolation at Halane Base Camp. AMISOM further announced that their condition remains subject to military intelligence.
According to AMISOM, the confirmed cases portend a huge risk to its operations in the country, which include its mission to flash Al-Shabaab out of Somalia, their stronghold.
Since COVID-19 broke out in Somalia, AMISOM reduced its operations against the Al-Qaeda linked group to avoid exposing its troops to the virulent disease unnecessarily.
Further, the organization clarified that the most affected personnel were from Uganda and Burundi contingents.
