4-Day Nationwide Polio Vaccination Campaign Launched in Somalia

With the support of organizations like World Health Organization (WHO) Somalia and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Somalia, a nationwide polio vaccination campaign targeting 2.5 million children under the age of 5 in regions most affected by the disease is underway.

The campaign, which was launched on Sunday, focuses on key states and administrations, including Jubbaland, HirShabelle, Southwest, Galmudug, and the Banadir Regional Administration.

Such campaigns are critical in regions where polio remains a threat due to challenges in healthcare infrastructure, conflict, and accessibility.

Vaccination drives help ensure that children are protected from this debilitating disease, contributing to global efforts to eradicate polio entirely.

The collaboration between international organizations and local authorities is essential for the success of these campaigns, as it ensures resources, expertise, and community outreach are effectively mobilized.
