Renovated Garowe General Hospital Officially Opened

The renovated Garowe General Hospital has now been officially opened to start serving members of public.

Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni opened the hospital alongside the German Ambassador Sebastian Groth.

They were in the company of Wafaa ElFadil Saeed Abdelatef, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative to Somalia on Tuesday.

The hospital’s opening marks a significant step forward in improving healthcare access in the region.

The major upgrades to the hospital include a new emergency unit, enhanced maternity services, and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which are crucial for addressing maternal and infant health needs.

The project received support from KfW Development Bank and the German government, reflecting strong international collaboration, particularly with UNICEF, to strengthen Somalia’s healthcare infrastructure.

These improvements are expected to provide much-needed medical services to the population in Garowe and surrounding areas, further contributing to Puntland’s healthcare system.
