47 Somali MPs Rubbish Senate Speaker’s Views on SEIT

Several Somali Members of Parliament (MPs) have rubbished the views by Speaker Abdi Hashi on electoral commissions.

The 47 MPs said that Speaker Hashi does not represent them.

Instead, they vowed to continue supporting the SEIT that Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble appointed to oversee the upcoming elections.

Speaker Hashi has threatened to marshal several candidates to boycott the elections unless President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s administration listens to their concerns.

Furthermore, the legislators also issued a press statement condemning the recent communiqué from opposition politicians.

Opposition politicians, especially those vying for next year’s presidential elections, issued a communiqué on November 26 threatening to boycott the upcoming polls.

The politicians urged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to remove spies and civil servants from the SEIT.

In their letter, the 47 MPs labeled the communiqué from the opposition leaders as an “ill-thought stance.”
