Somali and Egyptian Ministers Meet in Baghdad to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Baghdad, Iraq – The Foreign Ministers of Somalia and Egypt met in Baghdad on Thursday to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation, reaffirm Egypt’s steadfast support for Somalia, and explore strategies to enhance regional peace and stability.

Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, held wide-ranging talks on the sidelines of a multilateral diplomatic event. The meeting underscored the historic ties between the two nations and Egypt’s longstanding commitment to Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and development.

Fiqi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s diplomatic backing and technical support in various sectors, including education, health, and security. He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration as Somalia advances its institutional reforms and prepares for future economic integration in the Horn of Africa.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering stance in support of Somalia’s territorial integrity, especially amid ongoing regional tensions. He highlighted Cairo’s readiness to assist Somalia through capacity-building programs and shared efforts to combat terrorism and promote stability across the region.

Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation through joint initiatives, high-level visits, and coordination within regional and international forums. The ministers also discussed the evolving security landscape in the Horn of Africa and the need for collective diplomatic efforts to resolve emerging challenges.
