70 Somali Legislators Oppose Plans to Amend Provisional Constitution

Seventy legislators have opposed plans by the government to amend Somalia’s provisional constitution.

Legislators who opposed the scheduled amendments were from both houses of parliament.

They voted against the plans by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to amend the provisional constitution.

President Mohamud’s government is on a full throttle in its attempts to amend the constitution.

According to the lawmakers from the House of the People and Senate, the amendments could create a new constitution thus endangering governance in the country.
