Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has confirmed 81 more COVID-19 cases, which now take the total to 1,170.
The announcement by the Ministry of Health’s Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur shocked Somalis as this number was the highest recorded in 24 hours since the first case was reported in early March.
According to data released by the health ministry, Banadir Region accounted for 44 of the new cases. Jubaland reported 24 new cases.
Six were from Puntland while Somaliland and HirShabelle had five and two new patients respectively.
Further, health officials confirmed that the number of recoveries in the country is now 126 while 52 people have succumbed to the virulent disease.
The government has instituted several measures to curb the disease as aid agencies also lend a hand to reduce the risk of the virulent disease that is spreading rapidly around the country.
