NCC Tasks Interior Ministry with Legal Review of Jubbaland’s Status

The National Consultative Council (NCC), a high-level body composed of federal and regional leaders, has officially tasked Somalia’s Ministry of Interior with the responsibility of formulating and presenting legal recommendations regarding the status of the Federal Member State of Jubbaland. This directive is to be carried out strictly within the framework of Somalia’s Provisional Constitution and relevant national laws.

The move signifies a critical step toward resolving longstanding political and administrative questions surrounding Jubbaland’s integration and constitutional standing within the Federal Republic of Somalia. By entrusting the Ministry of Interior with this mandate, the NCC aims to foster a lawful, transparent, and inclusive process that clarifies Jubbaland’s position in the federal structure.

This development also reflects the growing emphasis on institutional procedures and rule of law in addressing federal-state relations and power-sharing arrangements, which remain pivotal for Somalia’s state-building and reconciliation efforts. The ministry’s findings and recommendations are expected to be submitted to the NCC for further deliberation and possible implementation.
