Amal Abdirahman, a female civil rights activist, has announced her candidature in the upcoming Presidential Elections in Somalia.
By announcing her candidature, Amal hopes to be elected the first woman President in the Horn of Africa nation.
The activist, who also lived in Enfield, England for four years, hopes to organize her campaign around issues such as equality and inclusivity.
Additionally, she has displayed a great desire to see the standards of living in her country improve substantially after the decade-long Civil War destroyed much of the infrastructure.
Amal, who was raised in Mogadishu, will vie as the candidate of her party, the Somali Women Democratic Party (SWDP).
She was 15-years when the Civil War that destroyed much of the country broke out following the coup d’état that ousted President Siad Barre.
The activist first vied in the Presidential Polls in 2012 but her candidacy was rejected because she had not attained the minimum age of 40 years.
She has announced plans to travel back to her country in April to start preparing for the campaigns.
