A Joint AFRICOM-SNA Airstrike Destroys Al-Shabaab’s Compound in Tiyeeglow

A joint airstrike between the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) and Somali National Army (SNA) led to the destruction of an Al-Shabaab base in Tiyeeglow.

A statement from AFRICOM stated that the drone attack was carried out on January 18.

AFRICOM and SNA carried out the airstrike three days after the US military pulled all its 700 troops out of Somalia.

However, the US military had confirmed that the decision to pull its military out of Somalia would not affect its operations in the country.

The latest airstrike is proof of the US military’s determination to continue with such operations in Somalia.

As per AFRICOM’s initial assessments, the airstrike, which is the fourth against Al-Shabaab in Somalia, destroyed one compound that hosts the militia group.

Independent sources revealed that Monday’s drone attack targeted another pro-Shabaab radio station housed in the compound.
