A Somali man who had been convicted of aiding Al-Shabaab was deported from the United States on Thursday.
The Department of Justice (DoJ) issued a press release dated September 18 indicating that the 31-year old man, identified as Mahdi Mohamed Hashi, had been deported.
In the press release, DoJ stated that the US District Court had convicted Hashi of helping the Al-Qaeda linked group in 2016.
On September 17, the Chicago office of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) removed him from the country.
He was placed on an ICE Air Operations chartered flight to the East African nation.
Upon landing in Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport, he was transferred into the custody of local authorities.
