Security authorities have arrested one of the main suspects in the shocking rape and murder of a teenage girl in Mogadishu.
On Wednesday, local police confirmed that they had arrested a 24-year old suspect in Adado.
Zakia Hussein, the Deputy Police Commissioner, said they arrested a suspect identified as Mohamed Ibrahim Osman on Tuesday night.
He confirmed that the arrest was made courtesy of a tipoff from the public.
With Osman’s arrest, the police have now nabbed 12 people on suspicion of involvement in the rape and subsequent murder of Hamdi Mohamed Farah, an incident that shocked the nation.
Farah, a young student who had sat for her high school examinations recently and was waiting to join university, was invited to a six-storey building by her male friend.
She was then raped and thrown off the building in Waberi district.
Residents took to the streets to protest her rape and brutal murder. Police launched investigations immediately and arrested 11 people on Monday.
