A UAE Foundation Launches Two Hospitals in Somaliland

A foundation from the United Arab Emirates has launched two hospitals in the breakaway region of Somaliland.

The organization, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, opened the hospitals in Somaliland on January 18.

One of the hospitals, known as Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital, is located in the port city of Berbera.

The second hospital would cater to women who need childbirth and neonatal services.

As per reports from the foundation and the Ministry of Health Development, the second hospital is to be based in Burao, which is Somaliland’s second largest city.

The donation is part of the humanitarian efforts by the UAE government to alleviate the suffering of the people of Somaliland.

Currently, Somaliland’s health system is in the doldrums.

The situation has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has wreaked havoc on the country’s health system.

Both hospitals have 40-bed capacities.
