Acting NISA Director Wins Seat in Galmudug’s Lower House Elections

Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud, the Acting Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has been elected in the ongoing parliamentary elections in Galmudug.

Mohamud had been a candidate in Galmudug’s elections for Lower House seats.

Out of the 91 delegates who voted in Dhusamareb, the Acting NISA Director garnered 68 votes while his closest challenger – Mohamed Ali Ulusow – got 20 votes.

Three of the votes were spoilt.

Mohamud is a close ally of the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.

Candidates opposed to his candidature see his victory as part of the plan by Villa Somalia to support MPs who would enable Farmaajo to remain in office.

While announcing the results, the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) said that Mohamud won after an accurate and credible process.

Farmaajo appointed Mohamud the new Acting Director of NISA to replace Fahad Yasin, who had been sent packing by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

Fahad Yasin had also been a close ally of the Somali President.
