On Friday, AMISOM announced that it had trained a new group of 200 police officers to boost security efforts in the country.
The newly trained officers will be deployed to Hirshabelle State, which is in Central Somalia to maintain law and order.
AMISOM’s Coordinating Officer for Hirshabelle State, Yuyi Mwala, said the officers will be graduating from Jowhar Police Academy soon.
He also reiterated AMISOM’s commitment to the efforts designed to restore stability and security in the war-torn nation.
Mwala said, “The 200 officers are well trained and prepared to make the country much safer. We thank the leadership of Hirshabelle State and police for supporting AMISOM’s efforts.”
AMISOM is in Somalia to implement the transition plan. It hopes to hand over all security responsibilities to government troops and exit the country by 2021.
