AFRICOM Calls Al-Shabaab Somalia’s Most Dangerous Enemy

The US African Command (AFRICOM) has said that Al-Shabaab remains one of Somalia’s most dangerous enemies.

Col. Chris Karns, AFRICOM’s Director of Public Affairs, said the US military would not rest on its laurels until the Al-Qaeda linked group is completely vanquished.

Karns said AFRICOM is committed to eliminating terrorism from the region.

He called out the “lies and propaganda” that Al-Shabaab relies on to justify the criminal acts that it commits in the Horn of Africa region.

Subsequently, he denied recent claims from the group that it wounded one soldier during an attack by AFRICOM that led to the killing of six militants.

Lately, Al-Shabaab has increased its attacks against innocent civilians, government officials, and security forces around the country.

Col. Karns said that the militia seems more focused on creating fear among the populace.

He assured Somalis that AFRICOM would work closely with Somali National Army (SNA) and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to liberate the country from Al-Shabaab.
