The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed that it was behind the deadly airstrike carried out near Kismayo on June 3.
AFRICOM stated on Friday that its forces were behind the airstrike that killed five Al-Shabaab militants.
The US troops killed the Al-Shabaab militants at a place known as Berhani, which is to the west of Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland.
According to military sources, the militants had attacked Somali National Army (SNA) forces in the region.
AFRICOM troops responded by coming to the defense of the SNA forces.
The AFRICOM later issued a statement indicating that no civilian was killed or injured in the attack.
