AFRICOM Confirms Carrying Out Airstrikes Against ISIS in Puntland on March 25

The U.S. military has officially confirmed conducting an airstrike targeting ISIS militants in Puntland, Somalia, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

According to a statement from U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), the operation took place near the Golis Mountains, resulting in the deaths of multiple ISIS-Somalia operatives, with no civilian casualties reported.

AFRICOM emphasized that ISIS-Somalia poses a significant threat to U.S. and allied forces, highlighting the group’s operational capabilities.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts by Somali and U.S. forces to combat ISIS presence in the region.

In February 2025, coordinated airstrikes targeted ISIS hideouts in Puntland’s Al-Miskaat Mountains, eliminating several militants without harming civilians.

Additionally, earlier that month, U.S. airstrikes killed 16 ISIS-affiliated militants in northern Somalia, as reported by Somali officials.

These actions underscore the commitment of both Somali and U.S. forces to disrupt and degrade ISIS-Somalia’s capabilities in the region.
