The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has confirmed carrying out an airstrike in Seiera that led to the killing of 13 Al-Shabaab fighters.
AFRICOM released a statement on August 28 confirming the airstrike.
The airstrike was in southern Somalia at a place known as Seiera, which is roughly 45kms to the northwest of the Jubbaland city of Kismayo.
AFRICOM stated that it collaborated with Somali forces in undertaking the “collective self-defense” on August 26.
The airstrike took place a day after Al-Shabaab attacked a military base in central Somalia.
It is feared that several soldiers lost their lives in the attack at the military base.
