On Wednesday, the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) hit Jilib town with a new airstrike that killed one person.
The drone attack was part of AFRICOM’s latest operation against Al-Shabaab in the region.
AFRICOM reported that it killed one Al-Shabaab militant during the operation while injuring one more and destroying the compound where the extremists were holed up.
However, media outlets that are friendly to the Al-Qaeda linked group reported that the airstrike killed three children too.
On its part, AFRICOM admitted that it received reports alleging civilian casualties from the latest airstrike.
It said its officers were investigating the claims before issuing a more comprehensive report later.
