United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) released a video of its recent airstrikes against key Al-Shabaab bases in Somalia.
The video showed AFRICOM personnel hitting an Al-Shabaab compound in Kunyo-Barrow with a drone attack on New Year’s Day.
AFRICOM released the video a few hours after it initially asked for more time to evaluate the impact of its recent airstrikes.
During the January 1, 2021 attack, AFRICOM damaged a compound that also houses the offices of Al-Furqan radio station in Lower Shabelle.
Al-Shabaab is renowned for using Al-Furqan radio as its mouthpiece.
Security forces in Somalia and its allies have been monitoring the compound for quite a long time prior to last Friday’s attack.
Despite releasing the video, AFRICOM is yet to confirm whether Al-Furqan was one of the targets of its drone attack.
