Al-Shabaab Attacks Turkish Military Base

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack carried out at Turkish military base in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

Authorities confirmed that two civilians were killed during the attack.

A military officer, Col. Ahmednor Abdulle, confirmed that the raid took place while new cadets were participating in their morning drills.

According to security officers, the attack was the first of its kind against the largest Turkey military base in the world.

Turkey installations seem to be a new target of Al-Shabaab after the European nation joined forces with Somali military to carry out operations against the Al-Qaeda linked group.

Turkey’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack and said that a Somali was killed while another was injured and is currently in hospital receiving treatment.

The ministry assured Turks that no Turkish personnel at the military training base was injured or killed during the raid.

Initial reports indicate that a single militant tried to access the base forcefully. However, he was stopped before he could do more damage.

He was killed in the process but not before killing one person and injuring another.
