Al-Shabaab has changed tact by targeting telecommunication masts in Somalia.
Lately, the group has targeted telecommunication masts in various parts of Somalia while launching its attacks.
This week, Hormuud Telecom said that the terrorists had hit its telecommunications infrastructure in Galmudug, a regional state in central Somalia.
Hormuud is the largest telecom company in Somalia.
Al-Shabaab took this approach to limit coordination and coordination efforts by government forces against its militants.
The new tactic seems to be more prevalent in areas where the military has launched operations against Al-Shabaab.
According to Hormuud, terrorists destroyed its masts in Qaayib village on Monday.
A vehicle-based improvised explosive device (VBIED) destroyed the mast.
Consequently, more than 14,000 people in the village and the surrounding areas were unable to access Hormuud’s services.
