Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for Sunday’s suicide bombing, which killed Governor Ahmed Muse Nur of Mudug Region in Puntland.
Governor Nur was killed in a roadside explosion on Sunday in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland.
Local police and security officials confirmed that he died together with his three bodyguards.
The incident occurred soon after Governor Nur had left his workplace, which is in Galkacyo District.
Al-Shabaab has a history of targeting government officials with similar types of attacks.
Nevertheless, authorities in Puntland have vowed not to rest until the Al-Qaeda linked group is exterminated from the region.
Authorities have also said they will leave no stone unturned until his killers are arrested and made to answer for their actions.
