Muse Moalim Mu’awiye, one of Al-Shabaab’s top commanders, has quit the militia group. NISA, the country’s spy agency, says Muse quit in the face of mounting disputes within the group.
Muse headed one of Al-Shabaab’s most famous wings; that is, Amniyat. According to NISA, the persistent wrangles in the extremist group encouraged him to call it quits.
Until his resignation, he was in charge of the group’s activities in Mogadishu. In recent times, the capital has suffered the worst attacks by Al-Shabaab.
Somali National Party (SNA) has driven Al-Shabaab insurgents out of Mogadishu. However, the group seems to have found ways of executing several deadly attacks in the capital.
Lately, Al-Shabaab seems to be experiencing an upsurge in internal conflicts, which have consumed the first big name in its ranks, Mr. Muse Moalim Mu’awiye.
Furthermore, he resigned in solidarity with two other commanders whom the group sacked a few weeks ago. He was close to one of the sacked commanders, Mr. Mahad Karate.
