Several top Al-Shabaab commanders and militants were killed during a military operation by Somali National Army (SNA) forces in Lower Shabelle.
The specially trained Danab Elite Forces carried out the raid.
Their commander, Gen. Ismail Abdimalik, said the forces received reports that members of the Al-Qaeda linked group were meeting at Daru-Salam in Lower Shabelle.
His officers then were deployed to the area fast. Their raid caught the militants unaware.
The forces then engaged the militants in a heavy gunfire thus killing several of the extremists and injuring many others.
The exact number of casualties remains unknown.
