Al-Shabaab employs a new tactic in carrying out its operations in Somalia by destroying CCTV cameras in the nation’s capital using IEDs.
The recent destruction denotes the second time the militia has carried out such an attack in Mogadishu in the last two months.
According to residents, members of the extremist group targeted CCTV cameras on the capital’s Wehliye Hotel and Dabka Junction.
The Thursday morning attack could increase the burden on taxpayers whose taxes enable the Federal Government of Somalia to recommit its efforts at increasing surveillance in the capital.
The junction between Dabka and Maka Al-Mukarama Roads is quite strategic, hence the decision by Al-Shabaab to target surveillance cameras in this part of Mogadishu.
Following years of relative peace, Al-Shabaab seems to be returning to Somalia’s capital city. Its return continues to cause chaos and mayhem in Mogadishu.
FSG has demonstrated willingness to upscale security in Mogadishu and its environs by increasing surveillance on the streets.
