Al-Shabaab Establishes New Tax Collection Points in Somalia

Al-Shabaab has established new tax collection points in Somalia, according to opposition politicians in the country.

On March 8, the Council of Presidential Candidates Union, which brings together 14 presidential aspirants from the opposition, issued a statement on this matter.

In their statement, the Council appealed to the international community to intervene before the East African nation is plunged into chaos and instability.

The Council said that the opposition is now collecting tons of money from businessmen and women around the country.

In Monday’s statement, opposition politicians told the international community that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) is no longer in charge of the country.

Instead, the politicians let the international partners know that the government continues to offer the militants an opportunity to operate freely.

The opposition believes that the government should direct more resources and personnel to the fight against extremists.

They blamed the government of putting more emphasis on deploying security agents against them and their supporters.
